Individual
Individual Therapy
Most people do not arrive at therapy with a tidy explanation. They arrive tired, or stuck, or aware that something has been off for a while. That is a perfectly good place to start. Individual therapy gives you one consistent hour that belongs entirely to you — where you can think out loud, be honest without managing anyone else’s reaction, and work out what needs to change.
One-to-one therapy for adults 17 and older — a steady, private place to understand what you have been carrying and decide what you want to do with it.
15 minutes, free, no obligation. Scheduling via Headway.

You may be here because
Some of this may sound familiar.
You function well on the outside and feel depleted underneath it.
You keep having the same argument, the same worry, or the same week.
You can name what everyone else needs and go blank when asked what you need.
Something happened — or nothing did — and you have not felt like yourself since.
You want to understand why you react the way you do instead of judging yourself for it.
Who this may help, and what therapy may explore
Who this may help
- Adults 17 and older across New York State
- People new to therapy who are not sure what to expect
- People who have been in therapy before and want a different fit
- Professionals and caregivers carrying long-running pressure
- Clients who prefer to work in Spanish, English, or move between both
What therapy may explore
- The patterns underneath a recurring problem, not only the problem itself
- How your history shaped the coping strategies you use now
- Practical tools for anxiety, low mood, and emotional overwhelm
- Communication, boundaries, and the relationships that drain or steady you
- Self-criticism, perfectionism, and the standards you hold only yourself to
- What you actually want the next chapter to look like
Karla’s approach
How I work one-to-one
I work conversationally. Sessions feel like a real exchange rather than an interview — I ask questions, I reflect back what I notice, and I say what I think. You will not sit in silence waiting for me to speak.
I pay attention to patterns. Often what brings someone in is the most recent instance of something much older, and naming that connection tends to be more useful than managing each episode separately.
I also care about what happens between sessions. Insight matters, and so does having something concrete to try on a difficult Tuesday. We will usually work on both.
Pace is yours. Some people want to go straight to the hardest thing; others need several sessions before that feels possible. Both are workable, and neither is doing therapy wrong.
Approaches that may be drawn on
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- DBT-informed skills
- Psychodynamic therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing
Not every approach is used with every client. What we draw on depends on what you are working through and what you find useful — and we talk openly about whether it is helping.
Questions
About individual therapy.
More general questions about fees, insurance, scheduling and telehealth are answered on the FAQ page.
How do I know if I need therapy?
There is no threshold of suffering you have to reach first. People come to therapy in crisis and people come because something small has been nagging at them for years. If you have been wondering about it, that is reason enough to have a consultation and talk it through.
What if I do not know what to say?
That is common, and it is my job to help with it. You do not need a prepared narrative or the right vocabulary. We can start with what your week was like and find the thread from there.
How long will I be in therapy?
It varies a great deal depending on what you are working on and what you want from it. Some people come for a focused stretch around a specific situation; others stay longer. We review how things are going together, and you are always free to change course.
