Questions
Practical answers, before you have to ask.
If something you need is not covered here, you are welcome to send a message — I respond within two business days. Anything more personal is better discussed in the consultation than in writing.
Getting started
Who do you work with?
I work with adults aged 17 and older, as well as couples and families, throughout New York State. Clients come to therapy for a wide range of reasons — anxiety and overthinking, trauma and survival-mode responses, depression, relationship and communication difficulties, life transitions, burnout, boundaries, self-esteem, caregiver stress, and the particular pressures of building a career in public.
Sessions are available in English and Spanish.
How do I get started?
The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. You can schedule it directly, or send a message through the contact form if you would rather ask a question first.
I aim to respond to inquiries within two business days.
What happens during the consultation?
It is a brief, informal conversation — about 15 minutes. You can share a little about what brings you to therapy, in as much or as little detail as you like. I will tell you how I work, and you can ask me anything you want to know.
The purpose is to work out whether this feels like a good fit. There is no cost and no obligation to book a session afterward, and if I am not the right clinician for what you need, I will try to point you toward someone who is.
A consultation is not a therapy session, a clinical assessment, or a crisis service.
What happens in the first session?
The first full session is longer and more open-ended than the consultation. We will talk about what brought you here, some relevant history, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different.
You will not be asked to relive anything difficult on day one. You set the pace. Toward the end we will usually sketch out some initial goals, though those often shift as the work develops — which is normal and useful information in itself.
I have never been to therapy. Is that a problem?
Not at all, and you do not need to prepare. You will not be expected to have the right words, a clear diagnosis, or a tidy account of your history. Part of what therapy does is help you find language for things that have not had any.
Telehealth
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes — the practice is telehealth-only. All sessions take place by secure video, which means you can work with me from anywhere in New York State without traveling.
Do I have to live in New York?
You need to be physically located in New York State at the time of each session. That is a licensing requirement rather than a preference — clinical licenses are state-specific, and I am licensed in New York.
If you move out of state or will be traveling for an extended period, let me know so we can plan appropriately.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
A reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space where you can speak freely for the full session.
The private space matters more than most people expect. If privacy at home is difficult, tell me — clients have found workable solutions, including sitting in a parked car, and it is worth solving rather than working around.
Is online therapy as effective as meeting in person?
For many people and many concerns, research suggests telehealth compares well with in-person care. It is not the right format for everyone or for every level of need, and I will say so during the consultation if I think you would be better served by in-person or higher-level care.
Fees & insurance
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. In-network plans are accepted through Headway, which verifies your coverage and shows your expected cost before you book.
Currently in network through Headway: Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna.
Coverage and out-of-pocket responsibility vary by plan. Headway verifies your benefits and shows your expected cost before you book.
Credentialing with Alma is in progress, which may add further plans.
What are your fees?
The private-pay rate is $160 per session.
If you are using insurance, your cost is set by your plan — your copay, coinsurance, and whether your deductible has been met. Headway shows you that figure before you schedule.
A reduced fee of $100 per session is available in some circumstances, considered case by case. If cost is a barrier, please say so during the consultation.
Do you provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
No, superbills are not provided at this time.
Is there a sliding scale?
In some circumstances, yes. A reduced fee of $100 per session is available, considered case by case rather than offered automatically.
If cost is a barrier, please raise it during the consultation. If I am not able to accommodate what you need, I will do my best to suggest other options.
Scheduling & sessions
How long are sessions?
Sessions generally run 45–60 minutes.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin weekly. That consistency helps in the early stage, when we are building an understanding of what is going on and establishing some momentum.
As things progress, some people move to every other week. We decide that together based on what is actually working, not on a fixed schedule.
How long will I be in therapy?
It varies considerably. Some people come for a focused period around a specific situation and finish within a few months. Others work over a longer stretch, particularly where long-standing patterns or trauma are involved.
We review progress together, and you are free to pause or end at any point. I would simply ask for a closing conversation where possible — endings are part of the work, and doing them well matters.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, and missed appointments, are subject to a $60 fee. This fee is the client’s responsibility and cannot be billed to insurance.
Life happens, and I would always rather hear from you early than not at all. If something comes up, let me know as soon as you can and we will find another time.
What are your hours?
Sessions run in the evenings, Monday through Thursday.
Exact openings vary, and current availability is shown when you schedule.
Bilingual therapy
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes. I am bilingual, and I provide individual, couples and family therapy in Spanish or English throughout New York State.
This is therapy conducted in Spanish by a Spanish-speaking clinician — not an English session delivered through an interpreter.
¿Prefiere español? Este sitio también está disponible en español en dare2flourish.com/es, y puede agendar una consulta gratuita de 15 minutos en el idioma que prefiera.
Can we move between English and Spanish?
Yes, and many bilingual clients do so naturally. Certain things are easier to say in one language than the other, and there is no requirement to stay consistent within a session.
Is the website available in Spanish?
Not yet. A professionally translated Spanish version is planned. We would rather wait and translate it properly than publish machine-translated pages about mental health.
Spanish-language therapy is available now, regardless of the language of this website.
Couples & families
Do you see couples and families over telehealth?
Yes. The practical requirement is that everyone attending has a private setting where they can speak openly. Couples often find it simplest to sit together with one device.
My partner or family member is hesitant. What can I do?
That is a common starting point. It is often worth asking what specifically they are worried about — being blamed, being told they are the problem, or having a stranger judge the relationship are frequent concerns, and naming them tends to make a first session more possible.
You are also welcome to book a consultation on your own to think it through.
Do you work with teenagers?
I work with older adolescents aged 17 and above, including as part of family sessions. For children under 17, I would encourage you to seek a clinician who specializes in that age group, and I am glad to help point you in a useful direction.
Clinical fit
Being honest about scope is part of good care. Below is what this practice does and does not provide.
Are there concerns you do not treat?
Yes. This practice does not provide treatment for active substance use, treatment for eating disorders, court-mandated evaluations, or care for severe psychiatric instability that requires a higher level of support than weekly outpatient telehealth. I also do not work with children under 17.
This is not about turning people away. These areas call for specific specialized training and, in some cases, a level of clinical support that a telehealth practice cannot appropriately provide.
If you reach out and I am not the right fit, I will tell you directly and help you look in a better direction.
How do you decide whether we are a good fit?
The consultation is where we both get a sense of it. I will be listening for what you are looking for and whether my training and the telehealth format can genuinely meet it. You will be forming your own impression, which matters just as much.
Fit is not only clinical. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is a meaningful predictor of whether therapy helps, so if it does not feel right, that is worth taking seriously.
I already have a therapist but I am considering a change.
That is a reasonable thing to explore, and it happens often — needs change, and so does fit. It can be worth discussing directly with your current therapist first; a good clinician will not take it personally, and sometimes that conversation itself resolves the issue.
Privacy & confidentiality
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential, with limited legal exceptions that I will go through with you in writing before we begin — these generally involve situations where there is a risk of serious harm, certain circumstances involving abuse, and court orders.
I would rather you know those limits up front than discover them later.
Is the contact form secure?
The form is transmitted over an encrypted connection, but please do not use it to send detailed health information. A website contact form is not a substitute for the secure systems used once you are a client.
Share only what is needed to arrange a consultation. Everything else is better discussed in session.
Does this website track me?
The site uses no advertising trackers, no social media pixels, no session recording and no behavioral retargeting.
It does use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and load times in aggregate. Cloudflare states that it does this without cookies and without following visitors to other websites.
Nothing you type into the contact form is sent to any analytics service, and form contents are never written to server logs. The privacy policy explains this in full.
Emergencies
What should I do in a crisis?
This website, the contact form, email, and scheduling requests are not monitored for emergencies.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
If you are in emotional distress or crisis, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which offers free, confidential support 24 hours a day in English and Spanish. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
Can I contact you between sessions?
Once you are a client, we will agree on how between-session contact works and what response times to expect. The practice does not provide 24-hour crisis coverage, so we will also make sure you know which resources to use outside of session.
Still deciding? That is a reasonable place to be.
The consultation exists for exactly this. Fifteen minutes, no cost, and no expectation that you will book anything afterward.
15 minutes, free, and no obligation to book a session afterward. Scheduling continues on Headway.
